Get your SEOd articles seen

Success can improved by following one or more of the steps.

Hopefully you'll get something useful from each of them.

1) You could use a program like Jason Potash's EzineAnnouncer to publish your articles to its built-in database of ezines which indicate they accept submissions. This tool could be very useful to you. You can find it over at http://www.ezineannouncer.com/ (or if you prefer to use my affiliate link http://wetrack.it/eza/af.cgi?3940)

2) You could use a service that you pay and let them distribute your article (such as www.articlesthatsell.com - this is not an endorsement as I haven't used their services)

3) You could visit article submission sites and manually submit your articles. (a few places you might want to start are:- http://www.ezinearticles.com, http://www.ideamarketers.com, http://chinese-school.netfirms.com/submit-travel-article.html, http://www.travelnotes.org/Travel/previous.htm, http://www.davestravelcorner.com - and other article directories - remember not just to look for travel directories since some more generic directories still include a travel section)

4) Start a Blog - This will have the added effect of archiving your articles and creating another place for people to find them, while also providing more links back to your website to help its visibility in the search engines (submitting your article to article directories also helps in this way)

Ok, this is where I'm going to wonder a litte bit outside of the box - Put your articles into an autoresponder. Setup a Blog with a relevant name (Use Blogger.com if you're new to this as it's really easy to get going with,and free). Set the blog to allow 'post by email' (PBE). Enter the PBE email address into your autoresponder. You'll now get your new blog having a new post made each day containing one of your articles (including your sig box and link to your site). (make sure your blog has the 'ping weblogs.com?' box ticked.

To add to the power of this tactic it's a good idea to either goto somewhere like www.pingomatic.com and announce your blog to several Blog directories, or to use a service or script to achieve a similar thing. (This works well for getting new pages on your websites indexed quickly too - just by linking to them in your blog, the search engine 'bots' will be around very soon)

This is easy to do and I'll happily help you out if you get stuck trying to implement it.

5) Having your articles in an autoresponder also means that you could offer them to other website owners and the work of delivering them is done for you.

Remember that if you have related products or services, the sig file is a great place for those, and with your autoresponder loaded up, you could even test which sig files work best and on what days etc.. Testing is important and this sort of information is great to track.

6) If your articles can be creatively merged to form a travel report (free to help increase traffic), or ebook (free/paid) you could even take your information to other places using methods that suit the new repurposed product.

Anyway, I hope some of that was useful to you and I wish you excellent luck in your efforts. (Actually, that's not true - luck's nothing to do with it, I'm sure you'll do fine).

More Blog and Ping Information..

The reason you'll hear Blogs and PR linked to getting indexed is this:-

1) When you setup a blog it's not quite the same as having a new website because there's one major difference - Even if they don't have the facility built in, you can effectively 'announce' the presence of your blog (and any new content you add to it) by 'pinging' (sending an announcement to) several large blog directories. In effect, this is like doing the 'add url' on a search engine, except that blogs get visited Very quickly whereas it could take ages for your site to get indexed this way.

If you use Blogger then there's a tickbox labelled "ping Weblogs" which if selected, will announce your new content to the Weblogs.com service whenever you post new material - this has the effect of getting the Googlebot (not mediabot) to visit your blog sometimes within minutes. Thus, if you've linked to some new pages on your site (some deep pages) - they usually also get a visit pretty quickly.

It's like getting a link from somewhere you know gets spidered regularly - except you can cause it to be spidered. (which is nice).

If you want Yahoo to come and see you quickly too, whether you're using Blogger or a different blogprogram, you can create a free MyYahoo account and add your feeds to it - that'll have the effect of 'announcing' them to Yahoo.

Again, the reason for this isn't to make your blog rank well - it's to get the links to your actual websites new pages to get spidered quickly because you're using the blog to call the bots for a visit and linking from the blog to your new pages.

2) The Page Rank comments - These are a reflection of the fact that in general, higher page rank sites get visited by the bots more frequently (since you can have a high PR from good internal linking and a few high PR incoming links from sites without much traffic - this is a generalisation and NOT a rule), so it's more likely that if you're not blogging and pinging that a few high PR links (from traffic heavy sites) will be a good alternative.

If you want even more, here's something I wrote on another forum recently (and in my blogs) about getting a high page count site indexed quickly:

However, the key to getting a new site fully indexed is deep linking.

If you were to just leave the site and get links to the index page, you could end up waiting 9 months to get it all in.

Have you created a site map(s).

Depending on your site, it may pay you to create several site maps for different parts of your site.

The Search Engine Bots will investigate pages that they find links to from pages that they're already visiting (you know this since you mentioned blog and ping).
When they do this, the work on a portion of the pages they've found about about at a time, so the more pages and the deeper the links to those pages - the longer it will take and the more times the bot will need to come back to get more.

So, the most effective thing you can do is: Create several site maps which cover lots of pages that have fairly shallow linking the get to them all (normally 2 levels max).

So rather than having 1 huge site map that lists every page. Create 5 site maps of 1000 links, or even more.

Then - Get links to these separate site maps aswell as your main index page. From as many different, high quality, high traffic sources as you can.

Blogs, RSS, Forums, Directories are all good examples of these.

If you get desparate you can buy links from high PR sites, but there's no need.

Any of the large, popular forums probably get visited by the bots every day (my own site does).

My answer:-

Here's a little tip you might like.

Set up a Blog with whichever service you prefer (I like Blogger.com)

Go over to Yahoo.com and setup a 'MyYahoo' account. It's free.

Then on your MyYahoo homepage and goto the section that says 'choose content' and then tick the box that says RSS Headlines (BETA).

Add your feed url(s) to this, so that they are shown on your MyYahoo page.

Yahoo will be around with 48 hours.

Which Tool Should You Use To Build Your Site?

I was recording a seminar with my friend Peter Twist recently, where Kirt Christensen came along and spoke about the 'Freedom sites' that he and James Brausche are promoting. Several people signed up for his $10,000 workshop and I was surprised at the time at the lack of knowledge that a lot of people there had about the options available.

I'll give you the basic lay-of-the-land as I see it.

1) Kurt Melvins 'bomb' scripts (www.dombom.com) - There are bombs for just about every aspect of creating web sites and content, from page-makers that email the articles to an ezine list, to rss to html tools and clickbank product feeds. These scripts are excellent and provide huge versatility in what you can create. The downside to the bombs is that documentation is minimal and if you're not totally comfortable with FTP and changing attributes of files on your server - they may be too much for you(It wouldn't surprise me if some of the more automated solutions stemmed from the bombs)

2) Smart Page Generators, Traffic Equalizer, Ranking Power, Traffic Turbocharger etc. - These are very simple to use and will make the pages quickly, but having been around for a while have started being 'filtered' by the search engines. Some people still have sites making money from one or more of these tools (myself included) but I wouldn't regard anything created with them as long-term

3) Metawebs, Secret Money Generator etc.. - These are a mid-way position between cranking out lots of pages, and providing a more user-friendly experience. Again, there are footprint issues and even though Nathan Anderson is leading the Metawebs team, and he has a good reputation - he's even had a lot of negativity aimed at him about the 'lack of added value' and 'footprints' that these programs give you.

4) NichePortal, Nichemonster, Freedom Sites -these are very easy to create and pull in articles and have traffic selling revenue streams built in. Again, these sites will leave a footprint and I wouldn't make any guarantee about how long they'll be successful once the SEs start trying to target them. The principles are sound and they've worked for years so far, so we'll have to see.

The bottom line is - The best way to create long-lasting websites is to NOT try and trick the search engines, but to create quality content. If you can do that using one or more of these tools in a way which offers value to the visitor and doesn't leave huge footprints where lots of pages have been made, then you should be fine.

The trade-off seems to be along two lines:-

1) Those people who don't care what the site looks like or offers, and who just want anything that might make some money.

These people just need to make the decision based on price. It looks like the NM, NP, Freedom sites are currently the best bet for making lots of sites quickly that might last. (The big thing with all of these sites is that they're so general in their targeting that you need to be able to drive traffic to them to make any money - most people buy these tools hoping that they won't have to do any work - They're wrong)

and

2) Those people who want to create valuable sites but without all the time and hassle involved.
These people need to find the balance between automation and content. Using RSS and making sites in small chunks (using either 'bombs' or TTC type tools (but with fewer keywords) is probably the way to go).

At the end of the day, no matter how you do it, you need to understand what search engines want and what they're likely to need to do to keep getting it, plus be able to convert the traffic you get.

There are lots of ways to get links and traffic to your sites and the importance of those is increasing all the time, so alway make sure you know how to successfully promote a site (any site) once you have one. If you can't do this, you'll never make money without having to buy the traffic.

Review of popular SEO Tools
After being asked about this topic today, I gave the brief overview below. (Lots more info coming soon from www.learn-seo.com) and I thought I might aswell share it here for you:-

1) Wordtracker/Adword Analyser (and other variations including the overture search term suggestion tool) - Great for doing keyword research into a market before wasting your time.

2) SEOElite - Brads lovely little tool for analysing the links to your site, your sites search engine position for particular terms, and assessing competitors websites, and finding potential link partners.(Inludes PR information, link text, linking page urls etc.)

3) Web Position Gold - If you're manually creating pages to upload to your server, this is a great tool with up-to-date knowledgebase help to make sure your on-page optimisation is good, coupled with it's excellent webpage ranking tools and reporting it's a must-have for a lot of site owners.

4) Optilink - Excellent tool designed to give great information about links and link popularity and provides really good reports on how effective your link strategy is.

5) Optisite - Add addition to Optilink but for analysing your own sites linking structure to make sure you've made the most of the aspects you can control.

6) GRSeo - good site optimisation analysis tool.

7) RankDummy - handy little tool for rank position checking.

8) SEO Spider - Another nice little tool for analysing competitors sites and determining number of pages, number of pages indexed by Google, Link Popularity, and Alexa Rank plus a Summary Report with page rank statistics.
